We tried to withdraw some money from a DBS bank outlet, but alas, it turns out that DBS Bank Indonesia is not linked to DBS Bank Singapore! What the..? So all my funds are locked in my DBS account and I can’t retrieve it from a DBS outlet here in Indonesia? That was simply absurd.
Despite all the interconnection signs displayed, DBS is a bank that isn’t internationally connected to DBS Singapore, this startling discovery got us hunting around for another bank with +Plus or Cirrus service so that we could withdraw our money.
It turns out that I can withdraw money from my DBS/POSB account via BNI or BCA (Bank National Indonesia or Bank of Central Asia) with an S$2 charge per withdrawal. Other banks such as Mandiri will cost a $5 charge per transaction and you could withdraw directly from Maybank as well as UOB.
It’s just unfortunate that DBS isn’t as popular or widely available here in Indonesia.

withdrawing money from BCA. The different machines allow dispensing of different value notes. e.g 100,000rp and 50,000rp notes. To withdraw an equivalent of S$145 or 1 million Rp, you will get TWENTY 50,000rp notes or TEN 100,000rp. Another absurdity here as the largest note is 100,000rp, (S$14.30), carrying S$200 worth of notes in 50,000rp denominations will make your wallet ridiculously thick.
