title : Kebun Raya at Bogor
Back to Bogor
The main tourist attraction of Bogor is the Bogor Botanical Garden (Kebun Raya Bogor). (Kebun Raya) was originally opened by the Dutch in 1817 and it became world renowned during the 19th Century. The coat of arms of Bogor is a rectangular shield, divided into four parts. The upper left quarter contains the State Emblem of Indonesia – the mythical bird Garuda, in the upper left is the presidential palace, in the bottom left is the Salak volcano, and in the lower right is the national Sundanese dagger - the kujang. Bogor Mall botani square Jl. Cidangiang Entrance of Kebun Raya The standard fare of ice-cream peddlers and pathways wind between towering bamboo shoots, and ponds full of water lilies and fountains. The place was thriving with people, but wasn’t unpleasantly crowded at all. There's had a splendid view of Bogor Presidential Palace's Lotus Pond. Splendid serene view, with the deers and the families are walking and playing around the lotus pond. Another tourist attraction is the presidential palace. The palace is surrounded by a park with a small pond. The park is home to a herd of tame deer, but off-limits to the public. The visit to Kebun Raya was rather mundane, it is obviously a popular spot for families to camp and hang out over the weekends. Anyway the area was plane, no major animals roaming about at all, not like the monkeys or the swans in Singapore’s Free Botanical gardens. *snort snort* "how 'bout some food... human." The city has a presidential palace and the Botanical Gardens (daily 8am–5pm; Rp9500; catch bus 02 from the train station) – one of the oldest and largest in the world. It nearly always rains even during the dry season. Because of this weather, Bogor has the nickname "Rain City" (Indonesian: Kota hujan). The garden's 87-hectare area also houses a rather dilapidated Zoological Museum houses some 30,000 specimens, including a complete skeleton of a blue whale, a stuffed Javan rhino and the remains of the giant Japanese crab. At least entry is free if you have already bought the ticket to enter the park in the first place. Rare pheasant whale spine Wow I wonder who did this. ribbit. ribbit. Whale skeleton Giant Japanese crab Bogor mall BTM (bogor trade mall) Only 3 malls in Bogor, and I've visited 2. One thing you might notice later in the day is that Bogor has cooler weather. The temperatures are lower than in Java: the average maximum is 25.9 °C (cf. 32.2 °C in Jakarta). Daily fluctuations (9–10 °C) are rather high for Indonesia. The absolute maximum temperature was recorded at 38 °C and the minimum at 3 °C. Panoramic view of Bogor from BTM. |
