title : (Transport 13 of 14) - Delman (Horse Carriage)
Perhaps the only truly traditional transportation left in Jakarta is a horse-drawn carriage called a “delman” (Called an “Andong” in Jogja).
For a 20th century city, horse-drawn delmans still exist in parts of the city. They are most commonly used to transport goods from major markets. Delmans can be found around Pasar Palmerah, Kemanggisan and at the MONAs where locals usually pile in the kids and have the delman driver take them for a fun ride around the Monas park. I’ve tried one in Jogjakarta and it’s about the same here. Delman pictured is from Cibadak, near Sukabumi. Delmans from Jakarta, Bogor and Bandung. |
