(Transport 5 of 14) - Mikrolet/Angkot
The Mikrolet (“mEE-cROW-let”), (these vehicles go by other names as well) are smaller type vans/mini-buses that serve set routes on smaller main roads (also known as Angkots), they are smaller in size compared to Metro-Mini like Angkots and typically costs 2,000rp - 3,000rp per pax depending on the distance. You’d need some experience on the streets to figure out the routes. You pay the fare directly to the driver after getting off. The beginning and end points of the routes are visible on the front and back of each mikrolet, along with a route number. For example, Tanah Abang - Meruya M11. Although most Mikrolets plies one particular linear route, there are some variations depending on the location or where you boarded the Mikrolet, even when heading to a particular location Mikrolets can go via different routes and this is not stated or displayed on their windshields but rather the driver will hold up his hand pointing to the direction of that mikrolet he is driving, so it makes good sense to ask if you know that particular Mikrolet has multiple routes (even with the same number). Mikrolets are like Angkots, stopping anywhere anytime as the driver pleases to pick up and let off passengers, one of the causes for the traffic conditions in Jakarta, but other than that I’ve grown fond of the Mikrolet, a versatile and no-fuss transportation option in Jakarta. They seat 9-12 people, depending on the type. The colours of the Mikrolets denote the operator, and not the type or destination, an example is the blue “Komilet jaya” or the red “KWK - Koperasi wahana Kapika”. Komilet jaya Angkots in Bandung |
