(Transportation 3 of 14) - Long-Haul Buses (Private)

I only recently learnt about private long-haul buses such as CipaGanti and X’trans. That travel a little further, are more comfortable and cost a little more.

These buses are similar to the long-haul buses (public), but are smaller, usually mini-buses with seating capacities of 11 to 25. Passengers are always seated (journeys can last 3 hours or more) and the ride is non-smoking.

Depending on which provider you choose, sometimes there will be a short break at rest-stops during the journey; sometimes it’s a direct journey to your said destination. Unlike long-haul public buses, these private buses do not stop at major bus terminals or pick up random flag-downs from the side of the road which happens frequently for the larger long-haul public buses.

Also you can’t alight anywhere you wish (unlike public buses where you signal to the conductor “kiri – kiri” to alight at non-node destinations, company policies don’t allow that and take you directly to their office nodes. These private buses start out from the agency’s office in that one city, and heads directly to the agency’s office in the other city by passing transportation hubs and nodes. The agency’s office becomes somewhat like a mini bus terminal for travelers.

Whist the public buses wait for the bus to fill, these private buses typically have scheduled travelling times, (ie. The bus will leave at stipulated times). Tickets have to be bought over at the agency’s counter and not charged the haphazard way of typical public buses. Tickets range typically about 70,000rp for a trip to and fro from Bandung.

For popular destinations like bundung, you have to book online or call the office to book/reserve a seat to ensure that you get a seat, walk-ins are risky and you might get pushed back on the waiting list till several buses back as bookings and reservations have priority.
